Cases Listed by Name

The cases are listed here alphabetically by name of the first party in the case title. Sometimes, the names have been replaced by initials or by the first names of the parties. There are a number of circumstances in which the court may decide to report a case in this manner, including where children are involved or when a court has ordered that the case be impounded.

With each case, we include the official citation to the opinion of the Appeals Court or Supreme Judicial Court.

  • For Appeals Court cases, the citation appears in this form:  123 Mass.App.Ct. 456 (2015). This means that the opinion in the case was published in 2015 in volume 123 of the Massachusetts Appeals Court, at page 456. The Appeals Court was created in 1972; so there are no opinions prior to that year.

  • For Supreme Judicial Court cases, the citation appears in this form:  321 Mass. 432 (2012). This means that the opinion in this case was published in 2012 in volume 321 of the Massachusetts Reports, at page 432.

To read any opinion exactly as the Appeals Court or Supreme Judicial Court wrote it, just click on it.
